All you experienced Mothers out there--a little help please

Carson is an amazingly good baby unless he has a lot of gas. Then, it seems like the world might end because he seems to be in so much pain. We have only had 2 really bad episodes of almost 24 hours of fussiness, but it is still obvious that Carson struggles at every feeding to digest without gas issues. We have been using Mylicon, but it isn't as effective as I would have hoped...

So my question is: have you heard of Gripe water http://www.colicease.com/? It seems like something good to try (I still need to call my pediatrician) and I am wondering if any of you have used it. Please let me know!!

We are heading up to Estes Park for the Scottish Festival this weekend. Carson already has a kilt, but it is a little big yet for him to wear. Rest assured he will NOT be regimental until he stops pooping in his pants. :)

Mmmmmm, good luck with that. Never heard of the gripe water, but we did use the Mylicon sometimes. It was at least a temporary distractor! Josh was extremely colicky, and it was hard. It was just a matter of riding it out, really. If you don't already have an electric swing, you might try that. Josh was such a booger, you had to be holding him all of the time, even when he was sleeping. The gassiness did magically get better at about 4 months old. (and FYI, the whole thing with either going to formula or adding rice cereal, etc, doesn't work either)

If he is spitting up ALOT (like seemingly everything he ate) or it is really projectile, then he might have reflux. If that's the case, then being held upright (so the esophagus is straight up and down) after eating helps.

Good luck, Lisa!

Never heard of it. But it's worth a try! Hope things get better for poor Carson!

Hi friend! I have not heard of Gripe water but anything is worth a try. I had one freind say she thought it had a lot of sugar in it.. . not sure if that makes it better or worse :-) I agree with Jessica in that sometimes time helps- just give it time. I would also reccomend baby massage, warm baths, and using a sling (they need that womb feeling). Sometimes they just have to let off some steam (specialists call it stress) and my Grandma says that just have to get enough crying for the day :-) It gets better. . .

Thanks for the advice--I did order some and we will see if it works...the baby massage and lots of extra burping seem to do the trick most of the time. I know, I know, we need to give it time but it is SO HARD when he looks like he is in pain! We have a swing and Carson likes it sometimes. He REALLY likes the bouncy chair that vibrates. Mike and I are doing a better job of not freaking out which I think helps too. :)
